I asked for an estimate for a copy of his records to be sent to me years ago, but the price quoted was just too steep for me.

I am glad that you found my article interesting, it is always lovely when people take the time to leave a comment.

Keep safe and well,
Linda
barnsleyhistorian@gmail.com BarnsleyHistorianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17706725823398288376noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1174929485671993677.post-34399167753306338492021-10-05T16:13:28.670+01:002021-10-05T16:13:28.670+01:00Hello! Charles Eric Hemmerde was the grandson of the prestigious soprano Rose Hersee, who happens to be my first cousin four-times removed (Rose's uncle, Valentine Roberts, was my third-great-grandfather). It's been incredible to read this summary of his military career - he accomplished so much in such a short amount of time!

It looks like you can access his records from the National Archives by paying them a visit, and since I live in London and can get to Kew fairly easily, I'm considering going to take a look myself. Happy to return any findings I get, if you like!Leah Holmeshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06493475353715099102noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1174929485671993677.post-68312734503642960572014-07-28T16:12:01.924+01:002014-07-28T16:12:01.924+01:00While I'm here - for the people who don't ...While I'm here - for the people who don't see my posts on Facebook - the cost of buying a copy of Charles Eric Hemmerde's records from the National Archives was estimated at £193, so I won't be sending for them! Shame, but maybe they'll turn up online in a few more years at a more reasonable price.BarnsleyHistorianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17706725823398288376noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1174929485671993677.post-43416119094707960562014-07-28T16:07:51.254+01:002014-07-28T16:07:51.254+01:00I learn something new everyday ...
